If you love skincare and want a career where you help people feel confident, becoming a licensed esthetician is a great path. Here is exactly how it works in Virginia.

Permaskin Academy esthetician graduates in Woodbridge, VA

1. Choose a licensed esthetics school

Your training must come from a school licensed by the Virginia Board for Barbers and Cosmetology (part of DPOR). Look for hands-on practice on real clients, instructors with real industry experience, and a schedule that fits your life.

2. Complete 600 training hours

Virginia requires 600 hours of esthetics training. You learn skin anatomy, skin analysis, facials, hair removal, makeup, sanitation and Virginia laws. At Permaskin Academy the program is hybrid and takes 15 weeks: 2 days a week in person, with theory online at your own pace.

3. Pass the state exams

After training you take two exams: a written exam and a practical exam where you show your skills. Good schools spend time on exam prep so you walk in ready.

4. Apply for your license

Once you pass, you submit your esthetician license application to DPOR. When it is approved, you can work as a licensed esthetician in Virginia.

5. Start your career, or keep going

Estheticians work in med spas, day spas, dermatology offices and their own studios. Many go on to become a Master Esthetician, which adds advanced treatments like chemical peels and microdermabrasion.

Can I study in Spanish?

Yes. At Permaskin Academy, classes and materials are available in Spanish, and you can prepare for the state exam in Spanish too.

How much does it cost?

The Esthetician program is $9,000 and the Master Esthetician program is $9,500. With our Anniversary Special you save $2,000, so the Esthetician program is $7,000 and the Master Esthetician program is $7,500.

Pay weekly with a $2,000 deposit and then $250 a week, with no credit check and no interest. Or pay in full and save an extra $500.

Always check the latest licensing details with the Virginia Board for Barbers and Cosmetology.
